SAMPLE CHAPTER EXCERPT:

Lenny Dave, on 'Creativity'

What drives me nuts? Giving up before you even get started! All too often, you’ll hear someone in an organization respond to a suggestion for change with the phrase, “But we’ve always done it this way!” Even worse is the default confession, “Oh, I’m not really a creative person.” These statements may be expressed in genuine innocence, or as a bold proclamation of premature creative surrender.

Both phrases are symptoms of a serious disease in the creative sick ward. Fortunately, there is a cure. You’ll begin to see results after the first dose, but the greater your commitment to the medicine, the exponentially greater will be your personal and organizational return.

Humans were born with the divinely inspired ability to bring new thoughts and ideas into the world. Stop and think for a moment about that all-encompassing statement. The more I read, write and live the awesome gift of our personal creativity and the amazing capabilities of the human mind, the more I keep coming back to a handful of fundamental concepts. No matter what your title or job description, you can use these concepts to nurture your creative thinking ability and apply it in the workplace, in the community and in your personal life.

New ideas translate directly to the bottom line. What’s a new idea worth to your organization? Maybe it’s an idea that helps the flow of information, either digitally, on paper or in human interaction. Perhaps it’s an idea that helps to retain valuable employees while attracting talented new ones. It might be an idea that helps to bring in a new client or, for that matter, keep an existing account from walking across the street to your competition. Or, maybe it’s just an idea that will, to the delight of your shareholders, ultimately increase the value of your company’s stock. What would you pay for a single idea that did any of the above?

Below are ten fundamental concepts for building your creative talents.
